The Dark Cloud over WWE

Hi again everybody! Stan Grubb here with a look at this week’s C2C. I’m sure you’ve guessed by the above title that this week we explore, discuss, and attempt to explain the Grant v WWE, Vince McMahon, and John Laurinitis lawsuit. I will warn you, this episode could be very triggering for anyone who has been victim of assault, sexual abuse, trafficking, and other heinous acts.

It is never easy to discuss things like allegations. In this case however, it is imperative that we do so. Why? Well, for one we should never sweep anything as serious as Ms Grant’s allegations under the rug. For years WWE and Vince McMahon has been the subject of rumor and innuendo surrounding possibly criminal sexual behavior. The stories are so vast that one need only to head to Google and look up WWE criminal rumors or Vince McMahon criminal rumors. It’s really quite something. To the best of my knowledge, there has never been a criminal charge filed outside of the 2011 assault charge to Mr. McMahon. I have never heard of any rumblings regarding John Laurinitis and his alleged actions. So to say this story surprised me would only come off as half true. Sure, like any fan I’ve read the stories/rumors. And sure, I had some previous opinions as to the veracity of them. We all were introduced to the #SpeakingOut movement in 2020 while all being locked down during the pandemic. The stories of abuse, assault, and disgusting acts were startling but, sadly not surprising. As an audience, I think we have all become somewhat desensitized to the everyday violence and sickness of evil people. Be it famous or not, the things we’ve learned through the years have almost burned our senses so much that we could almost look past it.

That’s why I felt it necessary, no- that’s why all of us at C2C, Brian, Rob and myself all felt it necessary to review this lawsuit. It’s bad enough that we, as fans, have witnessed the death of Owen Hart, the tragic death of Eddie Guerrero, and the terrifying murder/suicide of the Benoit family pre-pandemic. 2020 introduced us to a reminder that should we ever feel that evil is not everywhere we need only look to our beloved industry of pro wrestling and witness the awful stories from Speaking Out. Now, only 4 years later, we get a story that quite frankly should have been told then. Perhaps then, Ms Grant’s suit would have been less terrible? I don’t know for sure. But in the here and now, we are seeing what could very well be a truly earth shattering occurrence that puts WWE down once and for all.

Keep in mind, everything in this suit is an allegation until the case is heard and judgement is rendered. We recognize that here at C2C Radio Show. We also recognize a need for honesty and transparency with you, our audience. So here we are. Feel free to send any thoughts on the show, this episode, or anything else you’d like us to discuss to our Facebook page found here
